CRM for Law Firms in Israel: What You Need, What Exists

What a CRM for an Israeli law firm must hold, which local practice-management systems exist, what is known about Net HaMishpat, and when custom pays off.

Key takeaways

  • The core unit in a law firm is the matter, and one client can hold several matters.
  • Israeli practice-management systems such as ACTA, Mishpatit and Legal state on their sites that they connect to Net HaMishpat data.
  • I found no documented public API for Net HaMishpat, so ask every vendor how its sync actually works.
  • Section 90A of the Israel Bar Association Law requires archival material to be kept for seven years after the matter ends, and allows paper originals to be scanned and destroyed under the Evidence Ordinance.
  • The national ethics committee's opinion 1/22 addresses information security and cloud use.

A CRM for a law firm is built around the matter, not the deal: client, opposing party, deadlines, hours, documents and correspondence. Israel has several dedicated practice-management systems, and some state a sync with Net HaMishpat, the courts' filing system. A custom CRM pays off mainly for client intake, marketing and integrations those systems do not cover.

This article describes systems and facts at a technical level. It is not legal advice and makes no recommendation on meeting any professional duty.

What does a law firm's CRM need to hold?

The difference from a general CRM starts with the data model. A firm does not sell one "deal". It runs matters that last months or years, each with its own parties, deadlines and billing:

  • Client - a person or company, with every relevant contact.
  • Matter - type, court, case number, responsible lawyer and status.
  • Parties - the opposing party and their counsel, so conflicts can be checked before a new matter opens.
  • Deadlines - hearings, filing dates and reminders, linked to the matter and not only to a personal calendar.
  • Time and billing - time recorded per matter, rate and billing method (hourly, fixed, contingency).
  • Documents - drafts, pleadings and correspondence, with per-matter permissions.
  • First contact - where the client came from, what they asked for, and who followed up.

I detailed the object model, and the difference between time captured in real time and time entered at month end, in law firm calendar, time and client file automation.

Which law-office management systems exist in Israel?

Each description is what the vendor states on its own site (checked October 2026). None publishes a price.

SystemWhat the vendor states on its site
ACTA (Adi Information Systems)Web-based system: client files, documents and templates, diaries and legal deadlines with reminders, accounting, permissions, and an interface to Net HaMishpat data
Mishpatit (Masig)Paperless office, a connection to Net HaMishpat, custom work forms and two-way Outlook calendar sync
LegalMatter and client management, a shared diary syncing with Outlook and Google, accounting with invoices, a cloud version and a CRM module, and pulling matter data from Net HaMishpat into the client file
CligalAutomatic document generation, digital signature, Net HaMishpat sync and a cloud system with AI

A name that comes up often in searches, Lizzy, is an AI legal assistant for drafting and reviewing documents rather than practice-management software, so it is not in the table.

What is known about connecting to Net HaMishpat?

Net HaMishpat is the system through which documents are filed with Israeli courts, and logging in requires government identification or a recognized electronic certificate. Under the official instructions, documents are filed as PDF or TIFF (PDF only at the Supreme Court), up to 30MB, and a document that needs a signature carries an approved electronic signature.

I found no documented public API for Net HaMishpat. The government data portal publishes only general data such as the list of courts. The vendors in the table state a sync but do not explain how it works. The practical question for every vendor is exactly what is pulled from Net HaMishpat, how often, and whether it needs any action from the lawyer.

What the law and the Bar say about keeping information - the facts

  • Professional privilege. Section 90 of the Israel Bar Association Law, 5721-1961, provides that a lawyer shall not disclose, in a legal proceeding, investigation or search, things and documents exchanged with a client that relate to the professional service, unless the client waives the privilege.
  • Archival material. Section 90A of the same law requires archival material to be kept for seven years after the matter or proceeding ends, unless lawyer and client agree in writing on a different period. Paper originals may be scanned and destroyed under the Evidence Ordinance rules, and an electronic copy is kept faithful to the original with customary security measures.
  • Cloud. The national ethics committee's opinion 1/22 ("Security of information held by lawyers") states that most offices already work in cloud environments, that a cloud provider with a valid ISO 27017/27018 certification is presumed to meet the security requirements, and that cloud backup counts as adequate backup.
  • Privacy. The Privacy Protection (Data Security) Regulations, 5777-2017, apply to databases, and Amendment 13 to the Privacy Protection Law took effect on 14 August 2025.

When is a dedicated system enough, and when do you need a custom CRM?

A dedicated system is enough for most firms to run the matter itself: deadlines, hours, documents and billing. It already knows how a legal matter is structured, and rebuilding all of that almost never pays off for a small firm.

A custom CRM, or an extension around the system, pays off when one of these holds:

  1. The firm invests in marketing and gets inquiries from several channels - website, campaigns, WhatsApp - with no single place showing who asked, who followed up and who became a client.
  2. There is a fixed intake process (questionnaire, conflict check, fee proposal, signature) that today runs by email.
  3. You need a report the system does not produce, such as profitability by matter type or by inquiry source.
  4. Another system has to connect and has no ready integration.

The intake and signature workflows are covered in workflow automation for small law firms.

How much does a custom CRM for a law firm cost?

A custom CRM or internal management system costs $5,000 - $28,000 and takes 3 - 8 weeks, per my pricing page. At the low end: inquiry management and client intake around the firm's existing practice-management system. At the high end: a full system with matters, deadlines, hours, permissions and reports. What moves the price is broken down in how much a custom CRM costs.

What to have ready before you choose or build

  • The list of matter types in the firm and what they share.
  • An export of the client and matter list from the current system.
  • A description of intake from first inquiry to a signed fee agreement.
  • Who in the firm needs access to which matter.
  • The systems that must talk to the CRM: calendar, email, digital signature, accounting.

Frequently asked questions

Does Net HaMishpat have an API for third-party software?

I found no documented public API for Net HaMishpat, either in the official filing instructions or on the government data portal. Israeli practice-management systems state on their sites that they sync with Net HaMishpat but do not describe the mechanism, so ask each vendor to show exactly what is pulled and how often.

How long must a lawyer keep a matter's files?

Section 90A of the Israel Bar Association Law requires archival material to be kept for seven years after the matter or proceeding ends, unless lawyer and client agree in writing on a different period. The section also allows paper originals to be scanned and destroyed under the Evidence Ordinance rules.

May a law firm store client information in the cloud?

The national ethics committee's opinion 1/22 describes cloud work as the existing situation in most offices and presumes that a provider with a valid ISO 27017/27018 certification meets the security requirements. Where the provider is foreign, the opinion says the lawyer must ensure the contract terms fit their professional duties.

What is the difference between a CRM and law-office management software?

Practice-management software runs what happens after a client is on board: matters, deadlines, hours and documents. A CRM runs what happens before and alongside: inquiries, sources, follow-up and fee proposals. Some systems include a CRM module, and in some firms the two sides are connected.

How long does it take to build a CRM for a law firm?

Per the pricing page, a custom CRM or internal management system takes 3 - 8 weeks. An intake and inquiry system around existing software sits at the start of that range. A full system with matters, deadlines, hours and permissions sits at the end, especially with a data migration from an older system.
