A delivery layer can save separate integrations to several couriers, but it adds another status source and another provider to assess.
A delivery layer can save separate integrations to several couriers, but it adds another status source and another provider to assess. The decision depends not on logo count but on whether the business needs carrier-specific capabilities: service types, pickup points, documents, pricing rules, or special statuses.
Map the delivery contract: what arrives from the order, which details are needed to create shipment, what the tracking number is, and when an order moves from “ready” to “delivered.” Then compare layer statuses with the statuses the business truly needs to show customers.
A direct API is not always better. It needs maintenance for every carrier; a delivery layer is not always sufficient. Choose from the complete order path and test cancellation, address change, label failure, and returned package.
