A useful payroll dashboard should not expose payslips or every employee detail to every manager. When connecting payroll, attendance, and BI, separate management metrics - hours, departmental cost, absences, and trends - from personal data accessible only to payroll or HR.

Begin with the decision the dashboard should improve. If the goal is to identify workforce-budget variance, the BI tool does not need bank accounts, addresses, or detailed pay components. Create a minimized data layer with internal IDs, period, organizational unit, metric code, and approved hours or amount.

Also separate “paid” from “planned.” Mixing scheduled-shift forecasts with closed payroll produces a precise-looking chart that cannot explain the gap. Build two separate measures and one explicit reconciliation point between them.
