Forty spreadsheets are not necessarily forty systems. Some are monthly copies, some are reports, and some are sources on which others depend.
Forty spreadsheets are not necessarily forty systems. Some are monthly copies, some are reports, and some are sources on which others depend. Start with an inventory: file name, owner, use, user count, personal data, change rate, and links to other sheets.
Then classify each file into four paths: retain as a working tool, turn into a report, move source data to another system, or archive. Address sheets creating business risk or repeating work first, not those with the ugliest formatting.
Migrate in small waves and compare old and new outcomes. Do not remove the old sheet until data and controls are approved. This makes the CRM, ERP, database, or simple form decision rest on an actual role, not a feature list.
