Employee count is not the only system-selection test. A small business with manufacturing, warehouse, purchase approvals, and several companies may need operational depth, while a relatively large business may mainly need documents, collection, and simple reporting. Begin with workflows, not logos.
List the five actions that must not fail: sale, purchasing, inventory, payroll, accounting, or service. For each, define volume, owner, source documents, exceptions, permissions, reports, and connections. Demonstrate a real scenario to the vendor, including correction, cancellation, and month end, not only a demo screen.
Also check data ownership, export ability, support route, and process-change cost. Do not promise that a particular system fits without discovery and a demonstration against the business’s data and requirements.
