When a report or calculation hurts, it is easy to blame ERP. Yet the issue may be missing data, undefined process, permissions, no common ID, or a calculation that belongs in BI.
When a report or calculation hurts, it is easy to blame ERP. Yet the issue may be missing data, undefined process, permissions, no common ID, or a calculation that belongs in BI. System replacement does not fix an unwritten rule.
Trace one problem to source: who enters data, which field is missing, who consumes the result, and what happens on exception. If ERP holds source data well and calculation changes often, a controlled external layer may suffice. If core actions are unsupported, data are fragmented, and consistency cannot be retained, consider replacement.
Compare migration cost, risk, training time, connections, and measurable benefit. Build a small proof of concept before a broad decision and retain a way back if the solution fails requirements.
