An Israeli ID format check can reduce typing mistakes in a form, but it must not be presented as identity verification. A number can pass a mathematical validation while belonging to somebody else.
An Israeli ID format check can reduce typing mistakes in a form, but it must not be presented as identity verification. A number can pass a mathematical validation while belonging to somebody else. Use the check to improve data quality, not to make a sensitive decision about a person.
Where to place the check
Validate structure in the browser to improve input experience, then validate again on the server before storing data. Retain only the minimum necessary data, restrict access, and show only a masked value in other screens.
If the number is needed only later in the process, do not ask for it in the first lead form. Start with name, phone number, and contact consent. Request additional information only when there is a clear business reason.
Do not send a full ID in an email alert, place it in a URL, or use it as the sole customer key. Every lead needs an internal identifier; the ID number is sensitive data with its own access and retention controls.
