Before connecting two systems, answer in writing: what is the source of truth, which event triggers sync, which fields move, what common ID exists, in which direction data are written, and how often it runs. Add who grants access, where secrets are held, whether a test environment exists, and who approves production release.

Failure matters equally: what happens if target is unavailable, the same message arrives twice, a field is missing, data change retrospectively, a rejection appears, or a process runs partly. Define log, alert, exceptions queue, safe retry, and owner for every action.

Finally set success measure, reconciliation process, documentation, backup plan, and exit route. If one question has no answer, it is not a reason to halt everything; it is visible discovery work before connecting real business data.
